Box Office Weekend: Inglorius Basterds

Inglorious Basterds proved to be a genuine hit with both critics and audiences this weekend. It took in almost 40 million, earning 37 million state side and another 27 million worldwide. Nothing proves more successful than a movie where Nazi's are being killed. As for the other films, last weeks numbers all moved down a spot, as District 9, GI JOE and Time Traveler's Wife stayed pretty much the same. I'm surprised at TTTW, I really thought it would dive this week. Julie and Julia also dropped only one place as the top 5 didn't change much. The other new openings did not fair as well, with Shorts coming up with only 6.6 million, and Post Grad coming in 10th with 2.8. August is turning into a good movie month.

1. "Inglourious Basterds," $37.6 million.

2. "District 9," $18.9 million.

3. "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra," $12.5 million.

4. "The Time Traveler's Wife," $10 million.

5. "Julie & Julia," $9 million.

6. "Shorts," $6.6 million.

7. "G-Force," $4.2 million.

8. "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," $3.5 million.

9. "The Ugly Truth," $2.9 million.

10. "Post Grad," $2.8 million.
